The World Championships in Herning 2022 are history. In the individual final, Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) was crowned double World Champion, beating Jerome Guery (BEL) and Maikel von der Vleuten (NED) into second and third place. Max Kühner (AUT/T) would have had the medal in his hands due to mistakes by Jens Fredricson (SWE), a drop in the double combination prevented this first World Championship medal in show jumping for Austria since 1974. So, as in 2018 in Tryon, it became sixth place and the certainty: With Max and Elektric Blue P we have an absolute world class duo under the red-white-red flag. The performance of Henrik von Eckermann (SWE) and his twelve-year-old BWP gelding King Edward could not be rated higher. Even though the first round today was probably too easy in retrospect (14 out of 21 competitors stayed clear), to deliver five clear rounds as the favourite in front of a quasi home audience only underlines how much he deserves this title, said Max Kühner in the interview.
After the team World Championship title on Friday, it is the second gold medal for the Swede and his barefoot Edward son. Silver went to Jerome Guery (BEL) and the 16-year-old Holsteiner stallion Quel Homme de Hus, who were the only other rider-horse pair in Herning not to record a single drop. The bronze medal went to Maikel van der Vleuten (NED) on Beauville Z N.O.P. with a total score of 5.96 penalty points. For the Dutch rider, this is also the second medal in Herning after the team silver.
