Sergio Alvarez Moya wins with new horse

It has been known for some time that Alamo, formerly part of the team of world number one Steve Guerdat, is now with Spaniard Sergio Alvarez Moya.

Moya sees the gelding as a possible candidate for the Olympics.

The story of the now 13-year-old is a bit more circuitous. First, the son of Ukato was very successful internationally with Steve Guerdat in the saddle. Together, they were able to win a World Cup final, among other things. The two were among the top pairs in the world.

A short time later, Alamo's Mexican owner, Gerardo Pasquel Mendez, decided to climb into the saddle of the black horse himself. Unfortunately, this did not harmonize one hundred percent.

So it came about that the American competing for Israel, Daniel Bluman, took over the reins. During the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, both were able to place a few times.

Then, at the beginning of the year, interesting news in show jumping became public. First of all, that Alamo would no longer be seen under Daniel Bluman. New rider should become the Spaniard Sergio Alvarez Moya. As the owner of the black horse is none other than the world-famous defender Sergio Ramos.

That footballers invest in equestrian sports is not uncommon. Thomas Müller and his wife Lisa also have their own stud farm.

Moya and Alamo hit it off right away. Already in the spring the two could place themselves among other things in the Grand Prix in Gorla Minore.

Also this weekend showed the quality, both of Moya as a rider, but also of Alamo as a horse.

Of the total of 13 pairs in the jump-off, none came close to the Spaniard's time. That meant the hands-down victory.

Certainly, this victory was also a wink in the direction of Tokyo. Moya can show as a rider already with his former gray Carlo, championship experience. For Alamo would be the first Olympic Games.
