When they are on the start list, the competitors have to dress warmly: McLain Ward and Catoki (by Catoki) are hard to beat in time jumping. This was also the case in the $39,000 speed class over 1.45m in Wellington on Thursday. The 14-year-old Holsteiner and the US-American with a super run ousted Daniel Deusser and Kiana vh Herdershof (by Toulon) from pole position. After only 57.75 seconds in speed mode, the pair was at the finish and was not caught again.
Daniel Deusser slipped to fourth place in the end with his time of clear 58.87 seconds. After McLain Ward, Double D was overtaken by Cathleen Driscoll with Flotylla (by Alvaro) with a time of 57.93 seconds and his stable mate, the Swede Petronella Andersson, in the saddle of Odina van Klapscheut (by I am Moerhoeve's Star).
Also clear but two places out of the placings were André Thieme and his DSP Chakaria (by Chap). The European Champion had used the competition to warm up for the Rolex Grand Prix on Saturday.
