Mare successful in big sport receives "NRW" title

Münster: To promote awareness of Westphalian horses, the name suffix "NRW" has been awarded to horses and ponies with outstanding successes for around 20 years. In addition, the award is a tribute to breeders, owners and riders. This special honor was bestowed on Ascala last weekend. The young mare is successful in advanced level show jumping competitions under the saddle of Hendrik Dowe.

This year's Westfalen Week was the stage for the awarding of the NRW title to Askala last Friday. The mare, born in 2016 at Josef Meyer in Rüthen, made her first public appearance in 2019 on the occasion of the fall auction in Münster-Handorf, which was also the auction premiere of breeding and auction manager Thomas Münch and managing director Carsten Rotermund. There they discovered our long-time customers Ursula and Joachim Rosendahl from Odenthal, who recognized the potential of the A la Carte NRW daughter. Askala was brought into sport by Valerie Kampe, who quickly achieved her first victories and placings up to medium (M) level tests for young show jumpers. As of 2021, the bay horse then switched to being ridden by Hendrik Dowe from Heiden. The pair was extremely successful in two-star medium (M) level tests for young show jumpers before they secured an outstanding 3rd place in a 1.40 m jumping class in Gahlen in January of this year. Further high placings in advanced (S*) level show jumping tests followed before the seven-year-old won the two-star advanced (S) level test (1.45 m) in Lindlar at the beginning of July.

Askala descends from the winning stallion of the Westphalian main licensing in 2010 and internationally highly successful Warendorf state stud stallion, A la Carte NRW, under Marcus Ehning. The maternal pedigree goes back to the highly successful Holstein line 4025 which produced, among others, the World Cup show jumping winner of Stuttgart '23, United Touch S under Richard Vogel or Ludger Beerbaum's Classic Touch. Representing the successful jumping couple, the owners Ursula and Joachim Rosendahl accepted the award from the hands of Pferdestammbuch Managing Director Carsten Rotermund, Pferdestammbuch Chairman Ralf Johanshon and show jumping marketer Carsten Lenz. The Westphalian Studbook wishes breeder Josef Meyer, owners Ursula and Joachim Rosendahl and rider Hendrik Dowe continued good luck and success with Askala NRW.
