About the siblings

Siblings in equestrian sport are not uncommon. But it is not too often that three siblings are successful at 140cm level. This is the case with the Brodhecker family. The three boys Philipp, Hendrik and Johannes have been riding since early childhood. Through their parents, Volker and Susanne Brodhecker, the three came to riding.

Despite the fact that their parents are successful dressage riders, it quickly became clear to the brothers that they wanted to gain a foothold in show jumping.
Philipp, the eldest son, was the first to get into show jumping. The newly qualified master of horse management can already look back on a great sum of national but also international successes. "One of my greatest successes is certainly the 5th place at the German Youth Championships," the 25-year-old tells.
After graduating from high school, he moved to Warendorf, where he started an apprenticeship as a horse trainer. Later he moved to no less a stable than "Stephex Stables", one of the largest show jumping stables in Europe. Brodhecker continued to develop and was able to expand his success account with victories and placings up to 150cm.
But the 25 year old moved back to his home country. At home at the Burghof in Riedstadt, Philipp is currently responsible for training and presenting the stallions. "I really enjoy that," he explains.
But his younger siblings are in no way inferior to him.
The youngest of the three, Johannes, was able to finish his apprenticeship as a horse trainer last summer as the best in the course with the Stensbeck award. He started this in his own business under the management of his father Volker. But Johannes also wanted to "get a different perspective" and completed parts of his apprenticeship in the Palatinate with Steffen Hauter. But he, too, was drawn back to the Burghof. "Currently, everything fits here," he says. Johannes is passionately dedicated to training young horses and riders at Burghof.
With the help of his successful horses Quashquai and Freezy Boy, he was able to attract attention both nationally and internationally in show jumping up to 145cm. The middle of the three, Hendrik, initially took a different path.
After graduating from high school, he studied business administration at the University of Mannheim. After completing his studies, he also supports the team. "I take care of marketing, the website and our presence on social media," the 23-year-old tells us. But he, too, can boast successes up to 140cm. Currently, he is also involved in the training of the stallions. With the now five-year-old stallion "Cornet's Cero" by Cornet Obolensky, he was able to win jumping competitions with scores up to 9.0 last season.

The siblings' day usually starts together around 7 a.m.. Here they discuss the upcoming appointments and tasks of the day with their parents. Throughout the morning, they ride and train their assigned horses.
The young horses, which are in our training, we occasionally jump more often," mentions Johannes. Here, the siblings also like to fall back on their parents' tips. "We all help and support each other," Hendrik explains. The one or other fun among the siblings is not left out here either.
If an important tournament is coming up, the siblings plan their horses' training early and individually. They also support each other in the event of setbacks. "We deal with what didn't work so well and see what we can optimize. Most of the time, video analysis also helps here," Philipp tells us. The siblings' afternoons are varied. "Sometimes we look after customers here on our farm or try out horses ourselves."
"When we look at the horses, we pay direct attention to what the horse might be suitable for. If we want to use it in recreational sport, it must definitely be well-behaved and reliable. When we buy sport horses or show jumpers, we focus on the potential of the horse and its rideability," the siblings explain their requirements.
Their role models include Steve Guerdat, Daniel Deusser and Franke Sloothaak. The brothers admire their discipline, patience and horsemanship. Philipp, Hendrik and Johannes will certainly be heard from in the show jumping sport in the future.
