Diamantado Champion stallion of the Holstein licensing and auction price leader

23 licensed stallions, five premium stallions and a champion greeted with rapturous applause by the crowd – this is the outcome of the 52th Holsteiner stallion grading at the Neumünster Holstenhalls where Diamantado by Diamant de Semilly-Cayado was declared the champion stallion by the grading committee.

“This is how winners look. Diamantado is a stallion with a perfect body, very handsome and with a very masculine expression. Overall a horse of the highest quality“, was the résumé given by breeding director Stephan Haarhoff when proclaiming the winner. While the grey was born at the breeding partnership Eggert and Schramm’s in Leezen in Segeberg breeding district, the exhibitor of the representative of mare family 776 was Wolfgang Zipperle of Ludwigsburg. Afterwards Diamantado was knocked down at 260,000 euros in the auction. The first reserve champion comes from the Holsteiner Verband stallion keeping GmbH stable. Stephan Haarhoff praised Union City – as this United Way-Connor son is called – for his three above average basic gaits. Moreover, he attested to the tall three-year-old’s boundless ability and bright prospects. Alf Bartholomäus of Klein Offenseth is responsible for breeding of this representative of mare family 18A2. House Völz of Bienenbüttel is the breeder of the second reserve champion, a son of Cornet’s Quaprice-Quick Star from mare family 730B, and according to the breeding director’s description a “compact athlete with a very good top-line, quick reflexes and tons of ability”.

After the announcement of the champion stallion, Hendrik Schulze-Rückamp took to the auctioneer’s desk. After Diamantado, Colcannon II realized the second-highest price at 120,000 euros. The Cornet Obolensky-Contender son (Dr. Steven Passmann, USA) was exhibited by his breeder and Timm Peters, Bargenstedt, and knocked down to regular clients from South Africa. Premium stallion Dinello by Dinken-Corrado I, mare family 741, changed hands at 117,000 euros, from Witt Pferdezucht GbR (Wellinghusen) to Hendrix stable in the Netherlands. The average price invested by the clients from Germany, South Africa, Italy, Hungary, and Belgium was round about 47.000 euros for a horse.

Breeder of the Year: Gerd Ohlsen

The breeder of the year award was given to Gerd Ohlsen this year. The man from the North Sea Island of Foehr is currently the talk of the international show jumping scene thanks to the exceptional success of his horse Caillan, as the Casall son has won the three most important titles available to a seven-year-old jumping horse in 2022. Caillan took home the State as well as the National Championship and crowned his still young career by winning the Lanaken World Championship in Belgium. His sporting partner: the Swede Rolf-Göran Bengtsson. “Caillan is one of the brightest prospects at my stable. Whenever it matters, he is 100 percent focussed and willing to perform. In this he very much like his sire Casall“, Bengtsson says about the gelding. But it is not only the successes of Caillan Gerd Ohlsen is associated with. He has had one of his greatest successes so far at the 2012 stallion grading, which saw Quvee Prestige by Quidam de Revel leave the Holstenhalls as champion stallion. And also at this year’s grading, Ohlsen has had a licensed stallion, Braeden by Balou du Rouet out of a dam by Quvee Prestige. But not only stallions but also successful international jumping horses were born in Oevenum on the island of Föhr, including for example World Cup competitor Pikeur Dylon by Diamant de Semilly (Markus Brinkmann), 1.60m level jumping horse Deleyn by Larimar (Sofia Cady/USA) or licensed stallion Queno by Quidam de Revel.
